Its Atlantic coastline is probably Aquitaine's great attraction: hundreds of kilometres of sandy beaches, impressive cliffs and beautiful scenery.
There are many seaside resorts dotted along the coastline - Hendaye, on the border with Spain, Biarritz, world-famous surfing town, Biscarosse with its 15 kilometres of beach, Pyla-sur-Mer with its giant dune, Arcachon with its pine forests and bay...
Inland, Bordeaux is a great city to visit and its wines are world-famous, to be tasted in many châteaux and vineyards. Aquitaine also has many medieval villages in enchanting natural settings to be visited: Monpazier, Lalinde, Domme, Eymet, Beaumont-du-Périgord and others.
Between these villages, many rivers offer kayaking, hiking and cycling routes. Lastly, Aquitaine is a hotbed of thermal baths, with some of the most famous spas in France.
