Lorraine, part of region of Grand Est, has lots of attractive cities, towns and villages, worth visiting. The two biggest are Nancy and Metz. Nancy has a beautiful town square which is a a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Metz has a Gothic cathedral and a remarkable contemporary art museum. Longwy, Rodemack and Bar le Duc are some of the other smaller towns that we would recommend.
The Regional Natural Park of Northern Vosges has lots to explore. Gerardmer Lake, for example, is a glacial lake in the Vosges with various watersports available, plus a 7km trail for stroll around its perimeter. And the Haye and Verdun Forests are great spots for hiking too.
For bike-packing or simply leisurely cycling, look up La Voie Bleue. This is a 700km cycle route running through the region (in fact - from Luxembourg all the way to Lyon), along canals and rivers, through wetlands and by lakes, with lots of pretty villages, towns, historical and cultural sights to discover along the way.
P.S. While you’re in Lorraine, don't forget to enjoy some quiche Lorraine!
