Of course you can't really stay in Lower Normandy without visiting the famous Mont Saint-Michel: a citadel isolated from France by the sea, only accessible at low tide. It has a monumental abbey and numerous museums. Honfleur is also a must - a fishing village that seems frozen in time. Walking through its streets, you can browse art galleries of artists and enjoy the calm atmosphere.
Lower Normandy is also home to vast sandy beaches, many of them sadly famous as D-Day Landing beaches of WWII. Graves, monuments and exhibitions here pay tribute to veterans who came from many countries to end the war. You can also follow in the footsteps of William the Conqueror here, from his castle in the village of Falaise to the medieval town of Caen. Between the ramparts of Caen Castle - one of the largest medieval monuments in Europe, with dungeons, a church, galleries and a museum - enjoy a spectacular view of the "town of a hundred spiers".
Lastly, do not miss the local food and drinks. Take advantage of the markets to taste the freshest of local farm produce and wash it down with a local cider or calvados!
